Have you got Scooter tales

The Mods of the ‘Swinging Sixties’ bring back memories of halcyon days.

Charlie Brown (57) from the Falkirk Steeple Scooter Club is doing research on clubs from that time onwards and is seeking information from people who were part of the scene locally.

He said: “I’ve had a scooter since 1972 and have some great memories of things from that era.

“I’m looking for other people’s memories from the 1960s onwards when the scene started and I know there were a lot of people in this area who had scooters and will have stories to tell, and possibly pictures to share, which would be brilliant.

“There were quite a few places that sold scooters as well. Rossleigh Motors, Forresters in High Street and Bill Roberton in Grahams Road all had concessions doing Vespas and Lambrettas.

“I believe there was a woman from Polmont who worked in Falkirk Royal Infirmary and used to hold club meetings in her house.

“It would be nice to hear from people like that.”

John Cafferty, who runs the Falkirk In Old Pictures Facebook page, is also looking for help in identifying where the above picture was taken and who is in it.

His late father, John senior, is pictured (second left, middle row) in a go-kart at a scooter and go-kart meeting in Falkirk in the 1960s. If you can help in either of these appeals get in touch on (01324) 690249.
