Falkirk Ice Rink holds special memories for many a Falkirk Bairn being a popular place for youngsters and adults to frequent when it was open.
Cecilia Sharman (nee Hutton), originally from Falkirk now living in Loughborough, was a member of the rink’s figure skating club and spent a lot of time on the ice practising her skills.
She said: “In the late 1940-50s I spent years daily at the ice rink with Falkirk Figure Skating Club.
“The war had just finished and equipment was available for people. This was at the time of the ‘big bands’ and many visited the rink.
“We even had a pantomime there at Christmas when one of the big bands would play. Many of the girls I skated with like Lorna Colquhoun turned pro at the time. Our instructor was Gladys Jagger, a former principal of the Blackpool Ice Drome show.”
