Last week’s picture of hundreds of workers from the Carron Company brought back memories for Margaret Meek of Bainsford.
Her husband David worked there for over 20 years and was an employee when the firm celebrated its bi-centenary (200 years) anniversary in 1959.
Margaret said: “David started with the Carron Company when he left school at 14.
“He was there from 1940-44 and got his apprenticeship then joined the Forces before going back again.
“He eventually left in the 1960s and worked at the British Aluminium factory in Bainsford.
“If you stayed in one of their (Carron Company’s) houses, it was hard if you wanted to leave for another job because you couldn’t stay in the house if you didn’t work there.”
