This bright, spacious villa in Larbert’s Inches has one very special space that any young person would love.
Half of the double garage of Charlotte Taylor’s five-bedroomed house was converted into a sitting room for her then teenage son, while above it an extra bedroom was built – the size of a double garage.
It gave him a self-contained space that has no doubt been the envy of his friends for the past eight years.
“It’s taken him from teenager into adulthood and it’s been an absolutely brilliant space for him,” Charlotte said.
“It would also make a great space for an elderly relative – it doesn’t have a shower room at the moment, but the cloakroom is easily big enough to convert. ”
The clever conversion means the house still has a single garage and there is plenty of off-road parking in the sizeable driveway.
While all that is a great bonus, it’s not the only attractive thing about this house.
Charlotte particularly loves the kitchen which has a big, open dining area, with top quality laminate flooring throughout to make it easy to keep sparkling clean.
She’s put a sofa and coffee table at the patio doors, which open on to the garden.
It’s a perfect space for relaxation, enjoying the sunshine and looking out on to the garden which is another of her favourite places.
Mostly laid to lawn, it also has a patio where she enjoys sitting when the sun is out.
“The garden is lovely and sunny and it isn’t overlooked at all, so it’s very private,” she said.
There is also a separate formal dining room which looks on to the front of the house and a spacious lounge with a focal point in the lovely fireplace.
She particularly loves the huge window that floods the room with light.
The master bedroom is en-suite and there are a further four bedrooms (including her son’s) as well as a beautiful family bathroom and a practical laundry room.
“It’s a great family home,” Charlotte said. “It’s got a very special feel about it and it is very bright and spacious. “
She admits it will be a huge wrench to leave.
“I am reluctant to move but now my boy is in Australia it’s just time to downsize,” she said.
The Inches is a hugely popular local development, particularly as it is so well placed for motorway links to Scotland’s two main cities as well as further north.
“It is a lovely place to live and I’ll miss it very much, but it’s time to move,” said Charlotte.
