Kids chilling out with relaxing massages

Primary school children have been chilling out and learning the relaxing art of massage.

Pupils at Comely Park primary between the ages of four and 12 were taught by MISA (Massage In Schools) instructor Melanie Anderson.

The programme promotes positive and nurturing touch in a respectful way and is a peer initiative with children massaging their classmates while being supervised by adults.

Melanie said: “Children massage through the clothes on back, arms, shoulders and head.

“The gentle massage used in the programme encourages children to relax, reducing tension or stress and this can result in an improvement in concentration.

“The MISP addresses the four capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence as the programme develops positive communication.

“It has an inclusive nature, an ethos of respect for self and others and has a positive effect on concentration levels which can obviously be good for class work.”
