The new store opened this week and Falkirk Council’s licensing board agreed it could also deliver groceries, including alcohol.

The shop will use the Snappy Shopper app, with deliveries made by Scotmid’s own staff.

The retailer assured the board that all staff will be fully trained and alcohol will never be left if no-one is there to accept it.

As is standard, anyone who looks 25 or under will be asked for proof of age.

A representative of Scotmid told the board that the service is already used in other areas and is valued by elderly customers in particular.

He added that the new service is expected to create nine additional part-time jobs in the Bo’ness store.

Last orders on the app will be made by 9pm.
