Wedding of the week: Kirsty McDougall and Lee John O’Connor

The wedding of Kirsty McDougall and Lee John O’Connor

HOW THEY MET: They met when they were both travelling on the last train home from Edinburgh in 2007.

THE PROPOSAL: Lee popped the question in his uncle’s house in Edinburgh, using a ring passed down through the O’Connor family. He proposed on a balcony under the stars and the couple then redesigned the ring into a more modern setting.

THE WEDDING: The couple were married on August 15, 2014, at Linlithgow Burgh Halls. The weather was fantastic, which caused a cake calamity, and meant Kirsty was trying to fix icing the night before her wedding. Kirsty said: “Something has to go wrong on your wedding day, and the cake collapsing was ours. But we managed to salvage it and it’s a funny story to tell.”

THE WEDDING PARTY: Kirsty’s sister Danielle and Lee’s twin Nikki were bridesmaids, best man was Martin Bell and ushers were Jason Thomson and Brian Kazsta. Abigail McDougall and Ava Beth Howe were flowergirls and Michael and Harry Holmes were pageboys. Kirsty was given away by her brother James.

THE DRESS: Kirsty wore a strapless ivory satin vintage style dress with beading and pearls and a long waterfall train purchased from Olivia Cameron Bridal in Laurieston.

THE HONEYMOON: The couple spent two weeks in Thailand staying in a private villa with swimming pool.

THANKS: The couple wish to thank both families and the wedding party for all their help and support.
