The birth of Lucie Catherine Jane Niven

THE DETAILS: Lucie Catherine Jane Niven was born on April 16 at Forth Valley Royal Hospital at 11.32 p.m. weighing 7lb 4.5oz.

THE PARENTS: Mum Kerry Griffen (25) is a support worker in Grangemouth and dad David Niven is 31 and a shift operator in Grangemouth. Lucie is the couple’s first baby and the family live in California.

THE PREGNANCY: Kerry’s pregnancy was fine. She did have two clumsy falls during the pregnancy but everything was fine.

THE BIRTH: The baby was only two days late. Kerry thought she had been experiencing contractions on her due date but nothing was happening. The next day, after a few more niggles, the couple went to Frankie and Benny’s where Kerry labour advanced. When she arrived at hospital, she was in full established labour. After a long labour, Lucie was delivered by emergency forceps.

THE BABY: Lucie is brilliant. She sleeps and eats well, always has big smiles in the morning, and loves her Lamaze toy.

THE NAME: Lucie didn’t have a name for two days as the couple decided they didn’t like any names on their list. But after a good look at her, they settled on ‘Lucie’. ‘Catherine’ and ‘Jane’ are after Lucie’s two great grannies.

THE GRANDPARENTS: Lucie is a third grandchild for Lorraine and David Griffen of Camelon, and a first for Elaine Niven of Grangemouth.

THANKS: Special thanks go to the couple’s parents and to the staff at the hospital.
