The birth of Lilly Catherine Iris Porteous
THE PARENTS: Lilly is the first child of Gillian (37), an English teacher at Grangemouth High, and Craig Porteous (43), a prison officer. Gillian has a son Nathan (12) and Craig has a son from a previous marriage.
THE PREGNANCY: Gillian had a great pregnancy with no complaints or sickness. She did develop gall stones which meant she was induced nine days early.
THE BIRTH: Gillian had her waters broken two days after being induced and then Lilly arrived quickly, an hour and a half later.
THE BABY: Lilly suffered badly with colic but is now sleeping and eating well. She gave her first ever smile to her big brother and is a happy baby.
THE NAME: Lilly is after Craig’s gran and Catherine is after Craig’s mum. Iris is the Greek goddess of rainbows and the couple named her to recognise the two babies they lost before Lilly arrived safely.
THE GRANDPARENTS: Lilly is the second grandchild for Irene and Allan Porteous and the fourth grandchild for Billy Oliver and Ann Merrigan.
THANKS: Gillian and Craig wish to thank St Francis Primary pupil Nathan for being an excellent big brother.
