The birth of Layla Dalgliesh

THE DETAILS: Layla Dalgliesh was born at 12.27 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21 at Forth Valley Royal Hospital weighing 5lb 12oz

THE PARENTS: Mum Ashleigh Paterson (27) is from Westquarter and is a self-employed hairdresser, while dad Colin Dalgliesh (31) comes from the Braes area and is a fishmonger. Layla is the couple’s second child following Elli-Anne (3) and the family live in Hallglen.

THE PREGNANCY: Ashleigh admitted her pregnancy was “horrible” and a combination of high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia led to her being admitted to hospital earlier than expected.

THE BIRTH: Layla came into the world three weeks early via a routine c-section.

THE BABY: Now tipping the scales at a healthy 7lb 15oz, Layla has overcome colic and is prospering.

THE NAME: The idea for the name Layla came from a character’s forename in the popular Channel Four soap opera ‘Hollyoaks’ and not Eric Clapton’s classic rock song recorded in 1971 with Derek and the Dominoes.

THE GRANDPARENTS: Layla is the second grandchild for Julie and Davie Paterson of Westquarter and Caroline and Alan Dalgliesh of the Braes.

THANKS: The couple thank their parents and staff at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
