The birth of Joe McNaughton Mellor

THE DETAILS: Joe McNaughton Mellor was born on December 29, 2013 at Forth Valley Royal Hospital at 5.17 a.m. weighing 7lb 14oz.

THE PARENTS: Mum Gayle, from Larbert, is 28 and an accounts executive at Lex Auto Lease in Stirling, and dad David (25) is a sales executive at Prudential. Joe is the couple’s second child, and the family lives in Alloa.

THE PREGNANCY: Gayle said she had a bit of morning sickness but that the pregnancy flew in as she was busy looking after son Charlie who’s three-and-a-half.

THE BIRTH: Gayle was induced a day early, but two days later Joe made his appearance. The labour was slow to start but when it did, Joe arrived 25 minutes later, meaning dad David missed the birth by five minutes.

THE BABY: Joe is a great baby who sleeps and eats well. He is quiet, happy and content, and loves being sung and read to. He especially loves his big brother’s voice.

THE NAME: The couple struggled with a boy’s name as Charlie was the only name they liked. They had picked out four or five girl’s names, but agreed on Sonny for a boy. Gayle said: “We wanted an old man’s name, one that went well with Charlie. But when the baby arrived, he didn’t look like a Sonny, so we picked Joe in the hospital.”

THE GRANDPARENTS: Little Joe is a second grandchild for Wonda and John McNaughton of Larbert, and Tom and Jacqueline Mellor of Alloa.

THANKS: The family would like to say a special thanks to the members of the Buttercup team, and to Ann, Gayle’s midwife.
