The birth of Ryan Alexander McNelly

THE DETAILS: Ryan Alexander McNelly was born at 2.04 a.m. on April 22 at Stirling Royal Infirmary weighing 7lb 7oz.

THE PARENTS: Laura McNelly is 25 and a manager at Bruce’s Taxis, while dad Gordon McNelly is 29 and works as a taxi driver. Ryan is the couple’s first baby and the family live in Falkirk.

THE PREGNANCY: Laura’s pregnancy was plain sailing. She had no sickness or any other problems.

THE BIRTH: Little Ryan was six days early so mum Laura was still working when she went into labour. She first felt contractions in the morning and, by the end of the day, the couple decided to go to hospital only to be sent home because Laura wasn’t far enough along. They were back in hospital just after midnight and Ryan was born naturally just after 2 a.m.

THE BABY: Ryan is a great baby who eats and sleeps well. He is a happy wee baby and enjoys smiling.

THE NAME: The couple had lots of names for girls, but found out that they were having a boy when Laura was 16 weeks pregnant. Laura suggested the name Ryan and Gordon really like it. Alexander is after Laura’s dad.

THE GRANDPARENTS: Ryan is a grandson for Agnes and Alex Bruce of Falkirk, Lorraine and Alan Foley, and Stephen and Evelyn McNelly.

THANKS: Special thanks go to the midwives at Stirling Royal, the grandparents and everyone who sent such generous gifts.
