Stephanie O’Dea (28) will take on the gruelling 26-mile slog for charity to pay tribute to Isobel O’Dea, who died aged 79 last year.

All of the money she raises will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, whose “incredible” work was a key factor in Stephanie’s decision to run the marathon.

Having only ever managed a maximum distance of just over six miles in the past three years, the HR advisor has drawn up a strict training regime to ensure she is ready for the run on April 22.

Stephanie said: “I sadly lost my gran to her cancer battle last March.

“This is the reason why I want to help support Macmillan and pursue my goals, one being the London Marathon.

“The physical and mental pain I will endure during my training and completing the marathon does not come close to what those who are affected by cancer go through.”
