Steak out a lunch treat

When the restaurant in question is almost within shouting distance of the office it seems even more self-indulgent.

But that’s exactly what I did earlier this month and I must admit that I did feel (almost) guilty at the thought of others sitting at their desks with their soup and sandwiches while I prepared to tuck into a perfectly cooked steak.

The Scottish Steakhouse within the MacDonald Inchyra Hotel and Spa was the venue and proved the perfect location for the relaxing lunch in question.

Subdued lighting and dark furnishings give this the perfect ambience for a meal to linger over, and as neither of us was in a hurry to go anywhere it was time to sit back and study the extensive menu.

It’s a steak restaurant so the main was taken care off but what to start with?

I plumped for the soup of the day – an unusual but tasty combination of courgette and smoked cheddar. Served piping hot, it came with a generous slice of crusty bread.

Gregor eventually chose the skewered tiger prawns which were grilled and served on a bed of finely diced avocado and mango salsa with wasabi mayonnaise.

I take it they were very good as I wasn’t even offered a taste!

My choice of main was a rib eye with hand cut chips, while my dining companion chose a sirloin with skinny fries and a blue cheese sauce on the side. Both came garnished with mushroom and tomato.

Both steaks were perfection and literally fell apart.

I declined dessert but Gregor decided he had to do his bit, for research purposes you understand, and chose an ice cream sundae where you select your flavour, topping and sauce for your own version.

Yes you can’t beat a leisurely lunch, particularly one so good as the Steakhouse.
