Cash boost for Falkirk groups

Falkirk community groups will benefit from the Co-op's £20 million funding boost.

Nine worthy causes across the district, including Falkirk & District Boys’ Brigade, Woodcraft Folk Falkirk, Wellbeing Scotland – Community Matters, Equi-Power Central Scotland RDA, Denny Community Flat, Laurieston Church, TS Forth Sea & Marine Cadets, Laurieston Old Folks Welfare Association and Denny & Dunipace Pipe Band will
receive a welcome boost from a share of the fund.

Based on previous years, each group is
expected to receive between £4000 and £5000 of the £20 million national share.

The Co-op’s membership scheme helps contribute to the fund through buying own-brand products when members earn a five per cent reward for themselves with a further one per cent going to local good causes.

Members are then able to select which of these causes they wish to support by logging on to the Co-op’s membership website.

Michael Mccarthy, area manager for Co-op food stores, said: “As a community retailer we want to support the causes that matter most to Co-op members in Falkirk such as Falkirk & District Boys’
Brigade, so we would urge people to visit us online to choose who they would like to support.”

With 40 per cent of all charities typically surviving on an income of less than £10,000, this boost will provide a considerable proportion of funding for them.
