Louise and Nicola, both aged 14, were awarded their badge on Friday evening from their Guid leader, Margaret Kerr, at a celebratory presentation in Bantaskin Primary School.

The Baden Powell Challenge is the highest achievable award in Guiding, and
encourages hard work, advancement of citizenship and community develop-ment.

Mrs Kerr said: “There’s a lot of work involved in achieving your Baden
Powell badge. It can take 12 to 18 months to complete the challenge.”

The Baden Powell award, named after Lady Baden Powell who originally founded the Guides, has two parts which include ten challenges and the Baden Powell adventure.

Mrs Kerr said: “It includes both individual and group events, along with an
adventure weekend away. Louise and Nicola attended one in November where they got the chance to meet with other Guiding units and participate in challenging
activities.”

Along with their well-earned badges, the girls received a certicate and celebration cake to commemorate the occasion.

In order to achieve a Baden Powell award, Guides need to complete tasks that encourage them to try new things and push their boundaries.

They must also have made their promise, gained two challenge badges and two
interest badges.

Mrs Kerr said: “The girls should be really proud of themselves as it shows
commitment and dedication.

“They’ve worked incredibly hard every week at guides for their badge and it’s great to be able to celebrate their achievement.”
