It is the end of an era in Falkirk with the sale of a popular cafe owned by the same family for more than 80 years.

Neopoldo Serafini opened the York Cafe in Falkirk High Street in the 1920s and employed his four sons to run it.

His grandson, Ricky, joined the business in 1958 and has been there ever since.

Ricky (62) who was also helped out by cousin Martin Serafini during the 80s said: ‘‘Helen and I haven’t had a holiday in 14 years so we decided it was time to put feelers out to see if anyone wanted to buy the cafe.

‘‘The new owners took over on Friday and we stayed on to help then get settled.’’

He added: ‘‘It was gut-wrenching coming away but we wish the new owners all the best.’’
