And the organisers, Stirlingshire and Clackmannan Army Cadet Force, were delighted with the success of the event.

Major Bob Murray, the Force’s executive officer, who was organising secretary of the Tattoo, said: ‘‘From my own point of view it was a great success.

‘‘The people certainly came out in large numbers considering the inclement weather before the event.

‘‘The setting was perfect and we intend to explore the possibility of making it an annual event.’’

He thanked Falkirk Town Council which had been co-operative and helpful and partcularly Mr Roy Irvine, parks superintendent, and Mr David Cunningham, entertainments officer.

Provost William Fenny said: ‘‘I was delighted to see the big turn-out because this was a first rate display by these young people.

‘‘It was an outstanding occasion.’’

Among the guests was Major General F C C Graham,Colonel of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
