Nostalgia 1999: Falkirk Bairns go down to Bankies

The last home game celebrations went flat as Clydebank stole an unlikely victory.

Ian McCall’s men were on the back foot for most of the game but did what Falkirk couldn’t in putting the ball in the net.

The consolation from the Bairns’ point of view was the performance of 17 year olds Steven Rennie and Mark Kerr.

Rennie didn’t look quite so comfortable at right back as he had in his debut against Airdrie in central defence but he still showed enough to suggest he’ll be knocking on the door next season for a regular place.

Kerr was making his first appearance in the top team and displayed vision and passing ability.

His youthful exuberance was always going to make him hungry for the ball but, behind that, there is undoubted talent which makes him a superb prospect.

Kerr set up a half chance for Gareth Hutchison inside the first minute with a good cross from the right that the striker headed wide.

The Bankies might have had the lead when McDonald was through on Myles Hogarth but hit the ball straight at him.

Kerr did well in midfield to win the ball and advance to the edge of the box but scuffed his shot.
