Nostalgia 1995: Outraged Dennyloanhead man plants a new wood

A wildlife lover who failed in a campaign to save trees from the axe last year has now started to repair the damage.

Dennyloanhead man John Longbotham was outraged when trees were cut down to make way for a Beazer Homes development in the village last May.

Now Mr Longbotham of Denny Road has spent £300 of his own money planting 100 trees on his half-acre field a short distance from the Beazer site.

The former member of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds protested in vain along with his neighbours to save the trees.

They claimed that rooks had been nesting at the time and that many birds were killed.

Scottish Natural Heritage has chipped in with a £300 grant.
