Support keeps blooming

The money was raised from three festive evenings held in the Larbert business, as well as the reindeer parade day when over £1000 was collected.

Since then there has been a wishing well in the garden centre for the cancer charity which raised £300 in only a month.

Last Friday, Jamie Stevenson from Torwood handed over a cheque for £4058.27 to Gayle Cobain, Maggie’s fundraising organiser.

Staff and customers then walked to the nearby Maggie’s in the grounds of Forth Valley Royal Hospital where there were given a tour of the facility which opened last month and told how their money would be spent helping local people.

Jamie said: “It’s such a lovely space and fit for the purpose of giving relaxed care. Some of us were even able to join in with their Tai Chi session run by Misty. She showed us some relaxation techniques she uses with visitors to the centre to help them relax and come to terms with their cancer.”

Kerry Scott, Maggie’s fundraising manager, said: “Thank you once again to Torwood Garden Centre and everyone who helped raise this fantastic total for Maggie’s Forth Valley. We are an independent charity and receive no funding from the government so we rely on voluntary fundraising.

“It costs around £2400 to keep a Maggie’s Centre open for a day. The events at Torwood not only raised more than enough to pay for a full day at Maggie’s but were also invaluable in helping us raise awareness.”
