Masterclass raises cash

Generous donations helped organisers of a breast cancer charity event smash their fundraising target.

Held in Falkirk’s Business Hub last month, the Make-up Masterclass was the brainchild of Stacey Leigh Spalding.

The make-up artist, along with her mum and business partner Janice Archer, holds an annual event for a worthy cause.

This year they selected Breast Cancer Now after hearing the story of Mandie Stevenson from Falkirk who at only 27 has been given a terminal diagnosis.

However, Mandie is on a mission to encourage women of all ages to ensure they check for breast lumps and if they are treated in time, hopefully they can beat cancer.

Joining her on the day at the event was Debbie Donnelly from Carron who has been treated for cervical cancer and also wanted to get the message over that women need to attend for smear tests which can show up early signs of the disease.

Although the target was to raise £1500, the total was at £1860 when they were given another donation of £500.

Janice said: “We are delighted with the sum raised, and all done at no expense whatsoever, so all the money will go to this worthy cause.”

The Hub has also named its meeting room after Mandie.

Fundraising continues on Saturday, March 18 at the Falkirk v Morton football match when there will be charity supporters with collecting buckets outside the stadium.

Mandie and her dad John have been invited to attend as guests of the club.
