Hospital patients in the Falkirk area urgently need toiletries and other essentials

Patients who are unable to leave wards and no longer allowed to receive visitors due to current coronavirus restrictions would appreciate any donations of toiletries, basic items and wee treats like snacks.

For the last week or so nurses working in Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH) and other NHS Forth Valley premises have been taking in bags of items like soap, shower gel, shampoo, toothpaste and sanitary products, as well as sweets, crisps and biscuits for the patients who now find themselves with no chance of loved ones and friends bringing them anything.

Many organisations have been helping staff at FVRH and other locations, with donations of tea, coffee, Mrs Tilly’s tablet and lots more, but patients have not been so fortunate as yet.

Now hospital staff are urging businesses to put a little stock aside and people to add extra supplies to their own shopping then donate these items to those who really need them at this time.

An NHS spokesperson said: “All of our inpatient wards have stocks of toiletries for patients who don’t have their own they were admitted, however, these additional donations of toiletries are appreciated, particularly by patients in our community hospitals who may be in hospital for a period of rehabilitation or recovery following treatment.”

If you know any NHS employees – who are still travelling into work on a regular basis – then you can speak to them about perhaps taking the items into patients themselves or, if they cannot do that, they will be able to find another way to ensure goods find their way into wards.

Failing this contact The Falkirk Herald at [email protected] and we can pass the information on to staff who can pick up the goods and take them into FVRH and other locations.
