Former RAF woman is the new chair of NHS Forth Valley

Health secretary Jeane Freeman has today appointed Janie McCusker as the new Board chairwoman of NHS Forth Valley.

Ms McCusker, whose career spans a range of high level senior posts in a variety of key roles, takes up her new post from early next month.

Ms Freeman said: “Janie has extensive leadership experience at national and international levels, following 22 years’ service with the Royal Air Force and a term of office with UNICEF.

“She is also current chair of the Glasgow Colleges Regional Board.

“With this background I’m confident that under her direction, NHS Forth Valley will continue to provide a high level of care for those in the local area, and I look forward to working with her in the months ahead.”

Ms McCusker has a career spanning 40 years, which has included working in international organisations including the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the United Nations.

She completed a term of office with UNICEF as Principal Adviser for Security Coordination, and previously served as chairwoman of West Lothian College Regional Board.

Her past experience also includes establishing and leading departments in multicultural environments, and she has extensive knowledge and experience of governance, risk management, change management and mediation.

She holds an MA in Conflict Resolution and is a member of the Institute of Leadership and Management.
