FDAMH artists have designs on prizes at the Howgate Centre

FDAMH organised an art competition earlier this year, inviting people who practice art as a hobby to take part and submit their work in the chance to win some great prizes.

First prize was a one-to-one tutorial with artist Susan Smith at Forth Valley College and a £15 voucher for the Howgate. Second prize was a one-to-one craft tutorial with Jean Jones at the college and a £10 Howgate voucher, while third prize was a £5 Howgate voucher.

Judges Wendy Sharp, manager of Advocacy; Margaret Foy, Howgate marketing manager; artist Susan Smith; and Julie Law, FDAMH befriending manager, met up earlier last week to choose the winners from the myriad of excellent entries.

However, it is not just about the winners.

Competition organiser Emily Stewart said: “The aim of this event is to challenge views on mental health, by engaging with people who wouldn’t normally discuss it and create an opportunity to bring a vital discussion out into the open in a creative way.”
