Falkirk-based paramedics to feature in new BBC Scotland documentary

Falkirk district paramedics have been chosen to feature in a new series detailing the work of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Paramedics on Scene will follow paramedics as they respond to 999 calls across the country.

Lauren McEwan and Allan Ure, who are based in Falkirk, are among those given screen time in the programme, which will be shown on the BBC Scotland channel early in the new year.

The duo are interviewed after being called to an unusual location when a patient finds themselves in trouble at a veterinary surgery.

Talking about the call-out, Ms McEwan said: “We do go to some wild and wacky places but I think that was a first for me.”

In this first episode, the cameras capture Special Operations Paramedics responding to a major incident on the A90 near Dundee.

A crash between a van and a bus has led to multiple casualties, including one patient thrown from the top window of the bus.

The team leader must prioritise who needs the most urgent care as he works with dozens of other emergency responders at the scene of the crash.

In forestry woodland in Lanarkshire, a quad biking accident tests the ambulance service’s specialist off-road vehicle to its limits.

In Edinburgh, paramedics are called to treat a woman who has fallen in the street, but without location information they are forced to hunt for her.

Paramedics on Scene, the second series, will air on Sunday, January 3 at 9pm on BBC Scotland.
