Falkirk Council and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) have been swamped with complaints from the Braes area about swarms of flies.

Residents and businesses in Polmont, Brightons, Bo’ness, Grangemouth and Westquarter say flies have been invading their homes and premises prompting an investigation.

A Falkirk Council spokesperson said: “We have recently received a small number of complaints regarding flies in the Braes area and are aware of a general increase in fly activity during recent spells of warmer weather.

“There is no obvious source, and the increase in fly numbers is most likely due to environmental conditions, primarily increased temperatures. In most cases these natural increases in fly numbers are short lived. We will continue to monitor the situation.”

A SEPA spokesperson said a number of complaints had been received and the source of the problem was not from any SEPA regulated site.
