Those set to benefit range from small firms of several kinds to retail, hospitality and leisure enterprises, and the scheme is additional to separate tax relief measures.

The £10,000 grant is available to ratepayers of small businesses, while the £25,000 grant is available to retail, hospitality and leisure business ratepayers with a rateable value between £18,001 and £50,999.

Small firms which
receive the small business bonus scheme (SBBS)
or rural relief are
among those which can benefit.

They can also claim if they are eligible for SBBS and receive Nursery Relief or Disabled Relief, and have a rateable value up to £18,000.

The grants are part of a Business Support Fund worth £2.2 billion and
designed to help protect jobs, prevent business closures and promote economic recovery during and after the current coronavirus crisis, and it is reckoned more than 90,000 ratepayers across Scotland could benefit from this
additional support.

Businesses which think they may be eligible for one of these grants should contact Falkirk Council, which is administering
the scheme on behalf
of the Scottish Government, with a form on the local authority’s website.
