Sharp rise in patients with coronavirus in Forth Valley hospitals

The number of patients with coronavirus being treated in Forth Valley hospitals has risen sharply overnight.

The statistics issued daily by the Scottish Government show that there are 107 people currently in a hospital in the region being treated for or suspected to have Covid-19.

This is an increase of 20 – 23 per cent – in the last 24 hours.

Five of these patients are being treated in intensive care.

The number of positive tests carried out in Forth Valley now stands at 689, an increase of nine overnight.

NHS Forth Valley has previously said it is carrying out around 200 tests every day of key workers at its testing centres in the grounds of Falkirk Community Hospital, Bowhouse Community Centre and Stirling Health and Care Village.

The tests are now being analysed in the laboratories at the Larbert hospital rather than having to be sent to Glasgow. This means results can now usually be returned within 24 hours.

In Scotland a total of 51, 499 people in Scotland have been tested. Of these, 40, 728 were confirmed negative and 10,721 were positive.

The number who tested positive and have since died is 1332, 90 of these in Forth Valley.
