Nicola Sturgeon: First Minister confirms 39 new deaths as cases rise by 1,216

Speaking at her daily press briefing, the First Minister confirmed that 39 more people had died from the virus in the last 24 hours.

It brings the total death toll of people who tested positive for Covid-19 to 2,966.

Confirmed cases of the virus have now reached 69,660, an increase of 1,216 on the day before.

Ms Sturgeon said 481 of the new cases were in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 236 in NHS Lanark, 128 in NHS Lothian, 80 in NHS Tayside and 80 in Ayrshire and Arran.

The number of patients in hospital with confirmed or suspected coronavirus stands at 1252 - five fewer than yesterday.

But 95 people are now being treated for the virus in Scotland’s intensive care units, one more than on Wednesday.
