Falkirk war games event latest casualty of virus

Carronade, the annual wargame show in Falkirk’s Graeme High School, has become the latest public event to be cancelled because of the coronavirus crisis.

The event had been due to be held on May 9, but organisers Falkirk District Wargames Club recognised there was no prospect of social distancing restrictions being lifted in time for the event – and are instead laying plans for a hoped-for triumphant return in 2021.

Carronade attracts hundreds of gamers, traders and figure painters from all over the UK, and is one of just two “premier league” events of its kind in Scotland.

Besides elaborate games based on the great battles of history it features every imaginable sword and sorcery and sci-fi theme, often featuring models – from dragons to starship troopers - which are miniature works of art.
