Falkirk wakes to first morning in new lockdown

Falkirk woke to day one of tough new pandemic restrictions which will be in force for at least the whole of January.

A legally enforced ‘stay at home’ rule came into effect at midnight as the Scottish Government bids to battle a spike on positive cases.

The tightened restrictions will impact on people, schools and businesses for the whole of January as the whole of mainland Scotland goes back into lockdown.

People are only be permitted to leave their home for an "essential purpose" - this includes shopping, caring for someone or if they are part of an extended household.

They can also go out for exercise without limit, but social interaction has been severely limited.

You can only meet one person from one other household outdoors.

Everyone who can work from home will be required to. People who are shielding have been advised not to go in to work at all.

The construction and manufacturing industries will remain open, but this remains under review.

Schools will remain closed for the whole of January as pupils return to home learning - except vulnerable children and children of key workers , and only essential shops will remain open.

Places of worship have closed and will also operate online services, group exercise is banned, and weddings can only go ahead with a maximum of five people attending, and no receptions can be held.

Funeral wakes are also no longer permitted.
