The council said it made the decision after too many people ignored advice to go to either Roughmute or Kinneil only if the journey was absolutely necessary, following government instructions to stay at home to stop the spread of coronavirus. In a statement, the council said: “Our recycling centres have been open for essential trips. It has become clear that these centres are not being used on that basis and, accordingly, a decision has been made to cease provision of this service.”The centres closed last night (Wednesday) and will remain shut for the time being. The council announced on Tuesday that blue bin and burgundy bin collections were suspended so it could prioritise uplift of food waste and general waste.Green bin and food bin collections have not yet been affected.
