At an NHS Forth Valley press briefing this week, Doctor Graham Foster said: “There are more cases out and about in the community than there have ever been during the pandemic – it’s worse than it has ever been and the numbers are high just now and not slowing.

“It has been a difficult last two weeks and we have been very busy in Forth Valley. There are no signs of COVID-19 going away and I’m really worried about that.

“The level of cases in Forth Valley is still far too high and it is not showing any signs of coming down. I think we need to think about that and do something different – people staying two metres apart is the safest thing they can do.”

Dr Foster said the activities of residents young and old at gatherings over the Halloween and Bonfire Night period was now catching up to them.

“It’s now coming to the time we are seeing the impact of what people were doing round about Halloween and Bonfire Night. We are now seeing that with children testing positive for COVID-19 and having to self isolate.”

Dr Foster believes people have become so used to COVID-19 they are failing to take the necessary precautions – not thinking twice about putting a mask on, but forgetting they still must keep their distance from other people.“Things like staying two metres apart from each other is one of the things that could make a difference.”
