A spokesperson for Forth Valley College said: “The situation in relation to Coronavirus is rapidly evolving, and we have now been made aware that a student of Forth Valley College has been diagnosed with Coronavirus. The student is currently self-isolating and we wish them a speedy recovery.

“The Business Continuity Group met this morning and in light of recent developments, has taken the decision to close all campuses from 1pm today (Tuesday 17 March) until further notice in order for enhanced cleaning to be carried out.

“This is a precautionary measure in order to safeguard our staff and students, who are required to work remotely for the time being and will be contacted by their line manager with more information.

“We would also like to note that bursary payments and childcare funding will be paid as normal and that no student will be financially disadvantaged during the closure.

“We realise that this is a worrying time and understand there are many concerns, however staff, students and the general public, should be assured that we are doing all we can to minimise the impact of this unprecedented situation.

“We will continue to take advice from the local health protection team and the Scottish Government and will issue further updates in due course.

“The safety of our staff and students is a top priority and we appreciate your ongoing support and understanding during this challenging period.”

It had been announced yesterday, when there were no known cases identified at the college, that face-to-face teaching would stop from close of play on Friday.

However, following the positive case of a student, this new decision has been taken.
