Coronavirus death toll mounts in Falkirk area

Latest figures from the National Records of Scotland reveal a further three people died in the district last week, all of whom were care home residents.

The total number of deaths from coronavirus in the Falkirk Council area now stands at 129.

Of these, 64 were in care homes, 50 were in hospital and 15 were at home.

In Forth Valley health board area, the total number of deaths is now 229 with 118 dying in care homes, 87 in hospital and 24 at home.

By June 14, there have been a total of 4070 deaths registered in Scotland where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate – 70 of these were in the past seven days.

Of Covid-19 deaths registered to date, 47 per cent related to deaths in care homes. 46 per cent of deaths were in hospitals and 7 per cent of deaths were at home or non-institutional settings.

More than three quarters (77 per cent) of all deaths involving Covid-19 to date were of people aged 75 or over.

The latest statistics also revealed that people in the most deprived areas were 2.1 times more likely to die with Covid than those living in the least deprived areas.
