Cheque boost for disabled Darren

A big hearted community group has raised a massive £1000 for a disabled teenager to help him with his mobility.

The Dawson Centre Social Club in Bainsford collected in £1000 for 18-year-old Darren Anderson through the Newlife charity which is supporting him.

An appeal was launched to raise £1200 for Darren, from Falkirk, last month to get a power pack for his manual wheelchair and residents across the district have been getting involved to make sure the youngster gets what he needs.

The Newlife charity helps children across the UK with disabilities and terminal illness through its motto of ‘Together, we will make life better’.

A spokesperson for the Dawson Social Club said: “Members meet each Sunday evening in the Dawson Centre and we were all happy to undertake fundraising for such a good cause and were delighted to meet Darren Anderson and his family for this presentation.”

Councillor Cecil Meiklejohn did the honours of presenting the cheque on behalf of the club.
