A wealth of health for pupils

Primary school pupils were able to get a head start on the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle and had a lot of fun at the same time.

Youngsters at Bowhouse Primary School enjoyed a health week earlier this month with every pupil taking an active part in five days of events designed to get them thinking about fitness and their own wellbeing.

Acting principal teacher Ross McNairney, who organised the health week, said: “It went very well and all the classes were able to do a wide variety of things. There was the healthy eating side of it, but we also had pupils learning about CPR.

“It really covered an entire lifestyle – with primary ones getting briefed on stranger danger from the police and primary seven’s learning about the dangers of drugs.

“All the classes cooked a meal with their teachers, from primary one’s making fruit kebabs right up to primary sevens making their own risotto.

“What was great for us were the people who came to the school on a voluntary basis – Scottish Fire and Rescue, Police Scotland, representatives from Tesco and everyone else – giving up their time for the children.

“We want to thank everyone who helped make the week such a success. We’re already getting inquiries about next year’s event.”
