Now after consultation that asked the youngsters, their mums and dads, school teachers, the Carrongrange Parent Council and Student Council for their views, a shortlist of five preferred names has been put forward.

The suggestions are Carrongrange Academy; Grangeburn High School; Abbotsgrange School; Grange Academy; Helix Academy.

When it met Falkirk Council’s education executive was told the parents of pupils at Kinnaird Primary’s Thistle Wing, Maddiston Primary’s Timezone and the new ASN Primary Wing at Carrongrange will also be invited to vote for their favourite name because most of these pupils progress to Carrongrange at S1.

The result of the ballot will be known in November.

Councillors were told it would not have been unusual for Carrongrange to move to a new site and keep its old name, but that option had never been suggested.
