Redding teen's construction career kicks off with tool handover from local MP
A young Falkirk apprentice has been handed the tools for a career in construction, following a local MP’s visit to the Persimmon Homes site in Dennyloanhead.
Euan Stainbank MP visited Glen Loan Park to meet 19-year-old trainee John Grant and present him with a new toolkit as he begins a career with the housebuilder.
John, from Redding, recently began training as a bricklayer with Persimmon Homes East Scotland. In addition to learning from on-site, hands-on experience, the young apprentice will be studying at Forth Valley College towards his SVQ Level 6 qualification.
As part of his training, John will work across Persimmon developments in the Falkirk area, including Glen Loan Park and Kinglass View in Bo'ness, assisting in the building of quality homes for the community.
To ease financial pressure on young trainees, Persimmon provides apprentices with tools and PPE free of charge, allowing them to start their career with one less worry.
Euan Stainbank MP said: “Congratulations to John who is bringing his home-grown talent to this new development in the local area. I wish him and all the apprentices on the site all the best with their careers building the houses we are going to need.
“It was great to visit to hear directly from those involved about how the Glen Loan Park estate is progressing.”
John Grant said: “I’m really enjoying getting started with Persimmon and learning from experienced tradespeople on site.

“Receiving the tools I need to begin my apprenticeship is a huge help and means I can focus on developing my skills and making the most of the opportunity.”
William Smith, Persimmon Homes senior regional apprenticeship manager, said: “We are proud to support local young people like John to build successful careers in the communities they call home.
“John will live, work and train in Falkirk as he develops his skills with Persimmon and Forth Valley College. By providing apprentices with the tools they need from day one, we can help remove financial barriers and give them the best possible start in the industry.”
