Pupils coin in £200 with memorial walk for teaching assistant

Primary school pupils pounded the pavements of Grangemouth to remember the life of a much-missed teaching assistant.

Last Friday’s memorial walk for Rhona Clarke saw staff and children at Bowhouse Primary School, armed with packed lunches and happy determination, make their way from their Tinto Drive school to the Jupiter Wildlife Centre in Wood Street before returning to the school again in time to go home. Many of the pupils were dressed in bright colours in a tribute to Mrs Clarke who died on September 26 last year. Each youngster donated £1 to take part in the walk and the money raised will go towards a memorial for Mrs Clarke with the remainder going to the Young Carers charity. Head teacher Lynda McDonald said: “The current total is £200 but the money is still coming in. What a great experience it was on Friday.” The school was shocked when Mrs Clarke died, leaving husband Graeme and children Joanne and Kevin. Initially coming to the school as a parent volunteer, she was a support for learning assistant there for 15 years.
