Larbert High film club is London bound

Run by education charity Into Film, the event will be hosted by children’s author and television star David Walliams on March 18 at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square.

Now in their seventh year, the awards celebrate young people’s creativity in film, showcasing and highlighting the wealth of tomorrow’s creative talent.

Larbert High School has been nominated for the Into Film Club of the Year award.

The school operates one of thousands of Into Film clubs in the UK, where pupils watch free screenings of blockbusters and classics, foreign animations and documentaries. They also review films, take part in workshops and undertake lots of extracurricular, film-focused activity.

Kirsty Gallacher, Into Film programme delivery manager in Scotland, said: “We are so proud of pupils from Larbert High. These talented and passionate youngsters are the future of Scotland’s film industry, and you only have to spend a few minutes with them to see their obvious enthusiasm for film.

“We wish them the very best of luck at the awards and can’t wait to see them on the red carpet.”

Kerry Abercrombie, teacher and club leader at Larbert High School, said: “It is very exciting to be nominated. The pupils really are the leaders and they thoroughly deserve this acknowledgement for the fantastic club they have created.”

“I am really excited to be part of my film club at Larbert High,” added pupil James Gower (13). “I think it’s a massive achievement for us to be nominated for Film Club of the Year.”

Event host David Walliams said: “I love the Into Film Awards because it gives the opportunity to young people, from all kinds of backgrounds, to be a part of the film industry. As an actor, these young people are the future, and you want them to give you a job one day. Anything that encourages creativity is important.”
