The scholarship was established by Falkirk Council in 2008 in recognition of the veteran politician and former school teacher’s contribution to the life of the Falkirk community during a remarkable career that spanned 33 years.

For over three decades Canavan was always committed to supporting young people at all levels of their schooling and the scholarship helps one pupil achieve their goal of pursuing a full time course in either further or higher education.

To find the ‘Pupil of the Year’ a panel of judges looks for someone who has not only been successful in the classroom, but has also given worthy service to others through voluntary or charity work.

Any school or community group can nominate a young person living in the Falkirk Council area for the award by contacting the council HQ in West Bridge Street.
