IN PICTURES: Langlees kids perform Burns classic Tam o'Shanter

Children in P5, 6 and 7 have spent two months learning songs and choreography for the specially-adapted show, The Tale of Tam o’Shanter, with the help of experts from Scottish Opera.

The event was part of an annual schools project which sees Scottish Opera performers and education specialists visit schools across the country and work with children to prepare them to perform a full production in front of parents and fellow pupils.

This is the second time the school has taken part in the Scottish Opera project to offer new opportunities to pupils.

Gail McGlynn, head teacher at Langlees said: “It was absolutely fantastic. It was an excellent opportunity for the children to learn about Scots language and culture and all our P5 to P7s were involved,

“Over 60 parents came along which is an excellent turnout, and the pupils did exceptionally well.

“The whole experience was funded by the Scottish Schools Attainment Challenge which aims to improve self confidence and self esteem and gives the pupils an opportunity they wouldn’t have had otherwise.”
