It follows college staff who were taking part in industrial action short of striking (ASOS) beginning to mark the outstanding work to allow students’ final qualifications to be certified by the Scottish Qualification Authority. It comes as the EIS-FELA’s (Further Education Lecturers’ Association mandate for this action ended on October 13.

EIS-FELA had been taking the industrial action, including a resulting boycott, due to an ongoing national pay dispute since early May 2023. A small number of lecturers at FVC were participating in this.

Sarah Higgins-Rollo , FVC’s vice principal, learning and student experience, said: “From October 16, I contacted all lecturers who have been participating in ASOS, and asked them to mark any outstanding student work and to input any outstanding results, by no later than October 20. I would now like to thank those colleagues involved who have complied with this request, allowing students to have their results entered. I would also like to thank the students affected by this situation for their understanding and patience.

"However, if any students are still having issues in relation to their final marks, they should contact us immediately, so we can get these resolved as soon as possible, by emailing [email protected]

“We understand how challenging this situation has been in recent months and hope that a resolution to the dispute can be found soon, to avoid any further industrial action.”
