Falkirk Council latest on school meal provision

Falkirk Council has tonight revealed details about how school meals will be provided when pupils return to the classroom next week.

The local authority has been forced to rethink its plans after the proposed ‘soft return’ was vetoed by the Scottish Government which wants all children back in school full-time as soon as possible.

In Falkirk this will be by Monday, August 17.

Officials have been frantically changing plans and information about school meals has now been given.

There will be no breakfast club provision.

The local authority said it was currently being reviewed and there would be an update “in due course”.

From Wednesday, August 12 when the first pupils are scheduled to return Lunch Grab Bags will be the menu option available for all youngsters attending primary schools.

Education chiefs have promised a review of this provision and when the service can resume the standard three-week menu cycle will be undertaken before August 31.

Pupils who are not scheduled to attend school and are entitled to free school meals can collect a Grab Bag from their own school, between noon and 12:30pm daily.

In secondary schools from next Wednesday to Friday, Lunch Grab Bags will be the menu option available for all pupils attending school.

From Monday, August17 hot and cold food and drinks will be available

Again pupils who are not scheduled to attend school and are entitled to free school meals can collect a Grab Bag from their own school, between noon and 12:30pm daily.

In early learning and childcare centres

Lunch Grab Bags will be available for all children attending ELCs there will be Lunch Grab Bags available.
