Speaking yesterday, May 20, Martyn Day said: “As students express their gratitude to teachers on National Thank A Teacher Day, I wish to express my thanks for all the hard work of teachers and support staff during this outbreak of coronavirus.

“I recognise teachers have been supporting home learning through providing online material for children whilst working from home, often competing with the challenges of looking after their own families at the same time.

“The ongoing support staff have provided to vulnerable children and those of key workers within our hubs has allowed our shops to stay stocked, public transport to operate, our police and fire service to protect us and our heroic NHS workers to save as many lives as possible.
