Eric Ross (66) had been the janitor at Grange Primary School, in Grange Loan, Boness, for 36 years.
He said: “It’s amazing to think my daughter was three when I started here and now she works at the school and her daughters – my granddaughters – go here too.”

Hide AdEric was due to retire at Easter, but he was forced to hang up his broom three weeks early due to the COVID-19 lockdown which forced schools to close their doors until August.
The staff and pupils did not forget about him though and he was back at the school just before the October holidays to receive some parting gifts.
“It was very emotional and really very nice,” said Eric. “They had made a big banner for me and the primary sevens – including my granddaughter Grace – came outside to meet me.”
Eric was presented with money from staff and parents, a bottle of whisky and a whisky tasting event, and a framed article from the children. His wife of 45 years Jean also received a bouquet of flowers and a big box of chocolates.

Jean is planning to retire in February next year and Eric hopes they can get away for a holiday – their planned summer vacation to Ibiza unfortunately fell through due to the coronavirus crisis.
