Dementia care support group to be launched in Falkirk

Carers of people living with dementia in Falkirk can attend a new support group being launched in the area.

Organiser Central Wellbeing say the support group will begin from May 1 and be held every second Friday between noon and 2pm at Manse Place in Falkirk.

Overwhelming at times, carers of people who have yet to be diagnosed with dementia or memory loss have also been encouraged to attend.

The shared space will be a place to connect with people going through similar experiences, as well as a chance to talk to those who understand the expectation of caring for someone with a debilitating condition such as dementia.

During the meetings, attendees will be able to learn coping strategies and share companionship away from the day to day pressure of care support.

Offering two accessible options, the first is a fortnightly in-person group in Falkirk, and the second a monthly evening online session.

The groups are both free to attend, with refreshments provided at the in-person session to create a warm and welcoming environment.

Ania Sandland, Central Wellbeing CEO, said: “This project is about creating a space where carers feel truly understood. we’ve listened to what people in our community are telling us, and it’s clear there is a need for dementia-specific peer support where carers can speak openly and connect with others who share similar experiences.”

There’s no need to book ahead for the in-person group just turn up, and to join the online group email [email protected] for an invitation.
