Pressure group steaming ahead for station

A group of local residents has pledged to resurrect old proposals to bring a railway station to Bonnybridge.

Members of the newly-formed Re-Instate Bonnybridge Railway Station (RBRS) say they are determined to keep the pressure on the powers-that-be to explore the possibility of a station returning to the town.

The last time there was a railway station in Bonnybridge was in the 1970s, and since then there have been numerous discussions within Falkirk Council about a new station being created.

However RBRS say there has not been little or no movement.

Bryan Deakin, one of the newly-elected chairmen said: “We have a lot of local support for a train station.

“I think people were just fed up of all the political posturing that has been going on because the train station has not materialised, nor has the Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG) report needed to move forward.

“This led to a community group being formed with the sole goal of encouraging and promoting the need of a STAG report for Bonnybridge and it’s a positive step forward.

“Now we have a community group, we can apply some pressure in finally getting a STAG report done.”
